Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia. The cobblestone old town reflects a long and eventful history, including periods under Persian and Russian rule. Its diverse architecture features Orthodox churches, ornate Art Nouveau buildings, and Soviet Modernist structures. Overlooking it all are Narikala, a reconstructed 4th-century fortress, and Kartlis Deda, the iconic "Mother of Georgia" statue.
